Runway Beauty | Dolce & Gabbana F/W 10.11

Dolce & Gabbana is one of the highlights of Milan Fashion Week for me because they always have such beautiful hair and makeup to complement their clothes. It’s never overdone or fussy, but it’s always extremely beautiful and true to their vision of a strong, Sicilian woman. As with their last show, the focus was a strong red lip – but this time it was blotted to a stain. Here’s some more details from Allure, I have also read that the Powder Foundation was used.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath spoke about how the designers wanted a more realistic version of their signature look this season. “It’s not about perfection—it’s beautiful makeup that’s slightly broken down,” she said. “It’s the way real women wear makeup, not so perfectly applied as we normally do here. But still gorgeous and radiant.” To create that imperfection, McGrath drew black eyeliner along the top lashes and winged it past the outer corners slightly, but not to a sharp point. She blended a taupe powder shadow all around the eyes (from the Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Nude) and dabbed a bit on highlighter on the eyelids. On the lips was a mix of three Dolce & Gabbana lipsticks: Dahlia (deep merlot), Ultra (rich, dark red), and Devil (classic blue-red). Together they made a raspberry-red color, which McGrath applied two coats of, blotting in between each coat to make the color a bit sheer and faded. Then she used her finger to pat the darkest shade, Ultra, in the center of the lips for a bit of depth, she explained. Cheeks were given a healthy flush with a mix of two Dolce & Gabbana Blush colors: Rose and Provocative (a cool-toned bright pink).

I’ll be posting my thoughts & some pictures on the “Ultra” lipstick this week, hope you all find this look as inspiring as I do!
